Nano Brows Aftercare: What to Do & What to Avoid for Beautiful Healed Brows
Nano Brows Aftercare: What to Do & What to Avoid
You've chosen your brow shape, completed your appointment, and walked out with beautiful new Nano Brows.
Now comes an equally important part of the process:
How you care for them while they heal.
If you recently received Nano Brows in Johns Creek, GA, or you're researching the procedure before booking, understanding proper aftercare can help you feel much more confident about the healing process.
Nano Brows are created using a precise digital PMU machine to produce delicate, hair-like strokes. Because every person's skin and healing response are different, aftercare should never be treated as completely one-size-fits-all.
At Palette by Hannah, I provide aftercare instructions based on the procedure and the individual client. Always follow the specific instructions provided at your appointment first.
Here are the most important things to understand.
Quick Answer: What Should I Do After Nano Brows?
For the best Nano Brows healing, keep the area clean according to your artist's instructions, avoid picking or scratching, minimize excessive sweating and prolonged water exposure during early healing, protect healed brows from excessive sun exposure, and keep strong exfoliating skincare away from the brow area.
Most importantly:
Let your skin heal naturally.
You don't need to constantly check, touch, or "fix" your brows while they're healing.
The First 24–48 Hours After Nano Brows
Immediately after your Nano Brow appointment, your brows will typically appear darker and more defined than the final healed result.
That's expected.
During the first couple of days, treat the area gently.
Avoid unnecessary touching, rubbing, scratching, or applying products that weren't included in your aftercare instructions.
Your skin has just undergone a cosmetic tattoo procedure, and this early period is about allowing it to begin recovering without unnecessary irritation.
And remember: fresh Nano Brows are not healed Nano Brows.
The softer, more natural result develops gradually.
Can I Wash My Nano Brows?
This is one of the most common Nano Brows aftercare questions.
You don't need to be afraid of water forever, but freshly treated brows shouldn't be repeatedly soaked, scrubbed, or exposed to prolonged moisture.
When cleansing your face, be gentle around the treatment area and follow the washing instructions provided by your artist.
Avoid aggressively rubbing the brows with a washcloth, cleansing brush, exfoliating pad, or towel.
After showering or cleansing, don't rub your brows dry.
Gentle care is the goal—not panic over every tiny drop of water.
Can I Exercise After Nano Brows?
If you're someone who works out regularly, this is important.
Heavy exercise can create excessive sweating around the forehead and brow area. During early healing, excessive sweat and repeated moisture may interfere with the healing environment.
That means your normal hot yoga class, intense cardio session, sauna, or high-sweat workout may need to wait according to your specific aftercare instructions.
A few days away from an intense workout routine is much easier than interfering with the healing of brows you want to enjoy for a long time.
Avoid Swimming, Saunas & Excessive Moisture During Early Healing
Pools, hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas involve prolonged moisture, heat, sweat, or exposure to substances you don't want around freshly treated skin.
Plan your Nano Brow appointment accordingly if you have a beach vacation, spa weekend, or swimming trip coming up.
Your brows deserve time to heal first.
This is one reason I recommend thinking about your schedule before booking permanent makeup rather than trying to work around major activities afterward.
Don't Pick, Scratch or Peel Your Brows
Nano Brows often have a relatively subtle surface healing process, and not everyone experiences obvious peeling or flaking.
You may notice only mild dryness or very fine flaking.
Whatever you experience, don't pick at the area.
If a small amount of dry skin develops, allow it to come away naturally.
Picking, scratching, or intentionally removing healing skin can disturb the area and may affect pigment retention.
Your job is to let your skin do what it already knows how to do: heal.
What About Makeup Around My Brows?
During the initial healing period, avoid applying brow pencils, powders, foundation, concealer, or other cosmetics directly over freshly treated skin until it is appropriate according to your aftercare instructions.
Your favorite brow pencil can wait.
One of the reasons you chose Nano Brows in the first place was probably to spend less time drawing your eyebrows every morning.
Give them time to heal.
Retinol, Tretinoin, AHA & BHA After Nano Brows
Long-term skincare matters too.
Products designed to accelerate cell turnover or exfoliation—such as retinol, tretinoin, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and certain chemical exfoliants—can contribute to faster fading when regularly used over or very close to permanent makeup.
Once you've returned to your normal skincare routine, be mindful about where you apply strong active ingredients.
This becomes especially important if maintaining long-lasting Nano Brow results is a priority for you.
Protect Your Healed Nano Brows From the Sun
Georgia sunshine is beautiful.
Your permanent makeup doesn't necessarily feel the same way.
Repeated UV exposure can contribute to pigment fading over time, so sun protection should become part of your long-term Nano Brow maintenance after your brows have fully healed.
Once appropriate for healed skin, protecting the area from excessive sun exposure and using suitable SPF can help preserve both your skin and your permanent makeup.
This is especially relevant for clients throughout Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Suwanee, Duluth, Buckhead, and the Atlanta area, where outdoor activities and strong seasonal sun exposure are part of everyday life.
What If My Nano Brows Look Lighter While Healing?
Don't panic.
As I explained in my Nano Brows Healing Timeline, your brows don't look exactly the same throughout the entire healing process.
They may initially appear darker, then soften. Certain strokes may temporarily appear lighter or less noticeable while the skin continues recovering.
That doesn't automatically mean your pigment disappeared.
Don't judge your final Nano Brow result too early.
Allow your skin to complete its healing cycle before deciding whether an area needs refinement.
When Is My Nano Brow Perfecting Session?
A perfecting session isn't automatically a sign that something went wrong.
Permanent makeup heals differently from person to person, and some areas may retain pigment differently than others.
Once sufficient healing has taken place, I can evaluate:
• Pigment retention
• Hair stroke definition
• Symmetry
• Color
• Areas that may benefit from refinement
This is why I don't recommend judging your results based on what your brows look like during one particular week of healing.
We evaluate the healed result.
The Biggest Nano Brows Aftercare Mistakes to Avoid
The most important mistakes are actually very simple:
Don't pick. Don't scrub. Don't over-exfoliate. Don't repeatedly soak freshly treated brows. Don't ignore your artist's instructions. And don't panic every time your brows change during healing.
Nano Brow healing is a process.
Your Day One brows aren't your Week Two brows—and neither represents exactly what your final healed result will look like.
Patience is part of permanent makeup.

How long do Nano Brows take to heal?
The visible surface healing usually progresses much sooner, while the complete healed result takes several weeks to develop. I generally evaluate the final result only after the skin has had adequate time to recover.
Do Nano Brows peel a lot?
Not necessarily. Many Nano Brow clients experience minimal visible peeling or flaking. Some may notice mild dryness or fine flaking, while others notice very little.
Can I shower after Nano Brows?
Yes, but avoid repeatedly soaking, rubbing, or exposing freshly treated brows to prolonged steam and water. Follow the specific aftercare instructions provided for your procedure.
When can I exercise after Nano Brows?
Avoiding excessive sweating during early healing is generally recommended. Follow the timeline provided with your personal aftercare instructions before returning to intense workouts.
Can I use retinol after Nano Brows?
Once you've returned to your regular skincare routine, avoid applying strong exfoliating or cell-turnover products directly over the brow area if you want to minimize premature fading.
How can I make my Nano Brows last longer?
Proper healing, sun protection after healing, careful use of active skincare ingredients, and appropriate color refresh appointments can all help maintain your results.
